Leanne A. Bortner focuses on the areas of white-collar criminal defense, regulatory investigations and complex civil litigation with a particular emphasis on securities law, focusing on the financial services sector.


Recent Engagements:

  • Representation of former executives of an investment banking group in connection with well-publicized investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission relating to CDOs
  • Defense of a former large law firm name partner in multiple civil litigations
  • Representation of the Chief Executive Officer of an international food manufacturing company as a defendant in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Civil Action in the District of Columbia relating to allegations of accounting fraud
  • Representation of hedge fund administrator in US $350 million+ dispute pending in the London Court of International Arbitration ("LCIA") regarding services rendered to Bermuda-based hedge fund, as well as related Chapter 15 proceedings pending in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York
  • Representation of a private equity firm and an LLC which acquired a popular collectibles company in seeking to recover US $12 million in damages incurred as a result of breach of contract, fraud and other wrongdoing by the selling company and its officers, directors and affiliated companies
  • Representation of the Vice-President of an air cargo contracting company under investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York for payoffs made to Government officials
  • Representation of the Treasurer of a transportation company, regarding an Office of Inspector General investigation into defeased lease agreements
  • Representation of a key party in connection with the Chapter 11 administration of Archway Cookies LLC & Mother Cake and Cookie Co.
  • Representation of an employee in an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission into allegations of violations of U.S. law, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act ("FCPA") and false statements, relating to the construction of a natural gas complex in Africa
  • Representation of an insurance industry executive in connection with investigations conducted by the New York State Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission into alleged accounting fraud and bid-rigging
  • Representation of several executives of a European financial institution in connection with investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding Office of Foreign Assets Control issues
  • Representation of Brian Hunter, the former Head of Energy Trading at Amaranth Advisors, in litigation against the FERC and the CFTC over alleged improper trading of natural gas futures contracts
