Gabriela Menna Barreto represents clients in high-stakes, cross-border litigation and investigations, with a focus on Latin America. Ms. Barreto has particular experience with the financial services industry and matters involving securities law and insolvency litigation.

Prior to joining Kobre & Kim, Ms. Barreto practiced at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in São Paulo, Brazil, where her matters included representing Brazilian and U.S. clients in a wide range of corporate transactions, including securities offerings such as equity, high-yield debt and 144A offerings, and liability management. Previously, she was general counsel at Grupo IOSAN, a financial services provider.

  • Representation of the trustee of a Brazilian bankruptcy estate in filing a Chapter 15 proceeding to engage in asset tracing and related discovery matters in the U.S.
  • Representation of the trustee of a Brazilian bankruptcy estate in developing strategies for asset recovery and discovery in the United States in the wake of a succession dispute.

  • Representation of Jho Low, an international businessman, in legal matters arising out of the "1MDB" matter, which involve civil asset forfeiture proceedings brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as additional legal action from authorities located in Singapore, Switzerland and various other countries.
